WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US President Donald Trump said there is a possibility of reaching a peace agreement with the Taliban movement soon.
“We are negotiating with the Taliban, we have been negotiating with them during this time, we will see what happens, there is a chance to reach an agreement,” the president told the press.
On February 14, the US and the Taliban movement agreed to reduce violence for a week, which meant the first step towards reaching a peace agreement between the parties.
In addition, Trump said he spoke with his Turkish pair, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, about the situation in the Syrian region of Idlib.
“We talked about Idlib and we are working together” on the subject, the president told the press.
Trump, who spoke with Erdogan on February 15, said the conversation was “very good.”
“He’s a tough guy, but we have a good relationship,” the president said of Turkish President.
“He doesn’t want people killed,” Trump added.
