EL CAIRO (Sputnik) – The Government of the Libyan National Agreement announced that it is suspending its participation in military negotiations due to an attack launched by the Libyan National Army (ENL) on the port of Tripoli.
Earlier, the ENL, headed by Field Marshal Jalifa Haftar, announced having destroyed a weapons and ammunition depot in the port of Tripoli.
“Accordingly, we announce the suspension of our participation in the talks on military issues held in (the Swiss city of) Geneva until a decisive position is taken with respect to the aggressor and his violations,” says a statement from the Government of National Agreement
The ENL attack coincided with the start of a new round of military negotiations between Libyan delegations in Geneva.
Libya remains mired in a crisis since the overthrow of its leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, resulted in violent clashes between rival factions.
Currently in the country there is a duality of powers: the interim Government together with the Parliament in Tobruk, which controls the eastern part and has the support of the ENL, and the National Agreement Government, endorsed by the UN, based in Tripoli, in the northwest of the country.
