Supermarkets Albert Heijn and Jumbo open in Post Neude and Hoog Catharijne

The two supermarkets Albert Heijn and Jumbo opened their stores in the center of Utrecht on Wednesday morning. The Albert Heijn opened in the basement of Post Neude and Jumbo opened in a large building along the Catharijnesingel near Hoog Catharijne.

The grocery stores opened two brand new stores on the very same day. The opening of the Albert Heijn marks the opening of the former post office on the Neude. This building has been converted into Post Neude, next to the big grocer there will also be the library and other shops.

“It is a beautiful, striking building that is also in a great location on the Neude,” says supermarket manager Melissa Schuurman. In the new store, which also has a café section, around 150 employees will be working. The majority comes from other Albert Heijn stores in the area, the other employees are new.

The Jumbo has opened its doors in the building where V&D and Hudson’s Bay used to be. The building is attached to Hoog Catharijne. The entrance to the supermarket is therefore in the mall. Part of the store has been reserved for La Place where you can also eat and drink.

“I am proud that we can now also respond to the wishes of inner-city customers at this location in Utrecht,” said Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, co-owner of Jumbo.
