Paris: Mona Lisa made of magic cubes auctioned for 480,000 euros

A “Mona Lisa” made of magic cubes by the French artist Invader was auctioned in Paris for 480,000 euros. This was announced by the auction house Artcurial on Monday.

“The work ‘Rubik Mona Lisa’ by #Invader was auctioned at Artcurial for 480,200 euros and thus achieved four times the estimated price,” says the Twitter account of the auction house.

Invader has assembled his Mona Lisa from almost 330 magic cubes. The artist, who is actually called Franck Slama, has specialized in the so-called “rubicubism”: he reproduces masterpieces of art with magic cubes.

Invader has been presenting his work in exhibitions worldwide since 2005. Leonardo da Vinci’s original painting of the Mona Lisa hangs in the Louvre in Paris and is famous for the enigmatic smile of those portrayed.
