Lebanon rejects the ‘agreement of the century’ of the US for being contradictory to its interests

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The so-called ‘agreement of the century’ for the solution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, proposed by the US, contradicts the interests of Lebanon, said Amal Abou Zeid, advisor to the Lebanese president.

“The ‘agreement of the century’ it absolutely contradicts Lebanon’s interests, because we cannot allow 400,000 Palestinians to remain in Lebanon, “said Abou Zeid during the ninth Conference on the Middle East at the Valdái international debate club.

He explained that “this endangers the country’s society from an ethnic and religious point of view.”
He added that the Palestinians have the right to return to their homeland and have their own State.
In addition, the adviser to the Lebanese president said that Russia, as a neutral country, has good capabilities to organize negotiations between Israel and Palestine.

On January 28, US President Donald Trump presented the so-called ‘agreement of the century’ for the solution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The initiative provides for the mutual recognition of the States of Israel and Palestine, with an “indivisible” capital of Israel in Jerusalem, while Palestine would have its capital not throughout Jerusalem. East, as it aspires, but “in the section of East Jerusalem located in areas at East and north of the current security barrier, including Kafr Aqab, the eastern part of Shuafat and Abu Dis, and which could be called Al Quds or have another name determined by the State of Palestine. “

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rejected the Washington initiative and insisted on the recognition of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with capital in Jerusalem.

The Arab League called Trump’s plan unfair and called on the international community to prevent it from being implemented.
