Fabio Jakobsen won the final stage of the Tour of Valencia on Sunday. The Dutch champion was ahead of Dylan Groenewegen in the sprint. The final victory is for Tadej Pogacar.
The 23-year-old Jakobsen pushed his wheel in the mass sprint of the 97-kilometer final stage from Paterna to Valencia slightly earlier than Groenewegen, who still finished second. The German John Degenkolb finished third.
Jakobsen took revenge for his two second places earlier this week in the stage race. Groenewegen defeated his countryman both in the opening stage and in the third stage, but had to give in the final stage.
Pogacar wear jersey easily retained his leading position in the flat final stage. The Slovenian laid the foundation for his final victory on Saturday by winning the queen stage of the five-day stage race.
Poels best Dutchman in classification
Pogacar has a six-second lead in the final classification over the Australian Jack Haig (second) and Tao Hart (third). Wout Poels finishes sixth in the rankings and is therefore the best Dutchman.
There were no dangerous customers in the lead group on Sunday. Hugo Houle (Astana), Sergio Samitier (Movistar), Francesco Romano (Bardiani CSF) and Jon Agirre (Equipo Kern Pharma) rode ahead of the peloton for some time, but did not have a chance to win the stage victory.
The teams of Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma) and Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) never gave the four too much margin and at 9 kilometers from the finish their adventure was over, after which Jakobsen took the win in the sprint.
