MOSCOW (Sputnik) – An appeals court in Iran has sentenced eight people between four and ten years for espionage in favor of the United States, The National newspaper reported quoting the Persian judicial spokesman, Gholam Hossein Esmaili.
“Iran sentenced eight environmental activists, including an Iranian who has British and US citizenship, accused of spying on behalf of the United States and acting against national security for prison terms of up to ten years,” the media says and adds that only two people were sentenced at this time.
Esmaili said two other people were sentenced to eight years for “collaborating with the hostile government of America.”
Three other environmental activists received six years in prison each and the last was sentenced to four years.
The media reports that all those convicted were arrested in early 2018.
