Melbourne: Australian women beat India by five runs in tri-series T20 Australia surrendered to India by seven wickets. Smriti Mandana is the winner of the half-century.
India won the toss and elected to bat. Australia put on 173 for the loss of five wickets. In reply India were bowled out for 177 in 19.4 overs losing only three wickets.
Sixteen-year-old Shefali Verma’s good start gave the Indian team a good start. Opener Shefali hit 49 from 28 balls. The innings consisted of eight fours and a six. Smriti scored 55 runs off 48 balls. Jemima Rodriguez, who scored 30 runs from 19 balls, was also excellent. Jameema’s batting consisted of four fours. Harmanpreet scored 20 runs off 20 balls while Deepthi Sharma chipped in with 11 runs off 4 balls.
Ashleigh Gardner became the top scorer with 93 runs off 57 balls. Meg Lannings also made 37 off 22 balls.
Deepthi Sharma took two wickets for India. Rajeshwari, Ratha Yadhav and Harleen Deol all picked up one wicket each.
With this win, India are second behind England in the tri-series. India have lost by four wickets in their last two games against Australia and England. The final match of the league between Australia and England will be played on Sunday.
