Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed the date for his meeting on Saturday with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin, Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron. The four top politicians are expected to meet in Istanbul on March 5 to discuss the crisis in the Syrian province of Idlib.

Erdogan recently said that Merkel and Macron had approached Putin with a proposal for a joint Syria meeting.

“I made phone calls to Putl, Macron and Merkel at Idlib. We’ll meet on March 5th (in Istanbul) and we’ll cover this again, ”Erdogan said during a speech in Izmir Province, according to NTV.

Escalation in Idlib

The Syrian army countered the armed opposition attacks launched by the city of An-Nayrab (An-Nairab) on Thursday, according to the Sana news agency in southeastern Idlib.

Two Turkish soldiers were also killed in the airstrikes in the Syrian province of Idlib. A Turkish soldier was killed again on Saturday.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov previously said that Turkey had failed to meet a number of its key commitments to resolve conflicts in Idlib. In particular, Ankara has not delineated the armed opposition, which is ready to engage in dialogue with the Syrian government as part of a regulated process, from the terrorist organization “Jebhat an-Nusra” *.
