Many people are used to taking a nap during the day, but it should never be allowed to compromise their sleep at night, warns a Russian somnology specialist.
Daytime sleep should not replace nighttime sleep, said Roman Borzounov, president of the Russian Society of Somnologists, quoted by Russian media.
“A nap during the day can well complement a sleep deficit. However, it should not be too long. Suppose that the person did not sleep overnight and fell asleep later in the day for three or four hours. As a result, his sleep the next night will be compromised, and the person will have a sleepless night, ”said the specialist.
According to the doctor, as a rule, one should not sleep more than an hour during the day.
And to add that if you go to bed around 10 or 11pm, you shouldn’t have to take a nap during the day after 4pm.
For those who work at night, the somnologist recommends sleeping three to four hours immediately after returning home, explaining that this helps prevent drowsiness until the evening and thus does not compromise sleep at night.
