Lewis Hamilton drew attention during the morning session of the second Formula 1 test day with a technical discovery. It was a side issue that the Mercedes world champion rode by far the most laps.

Hamilton stood out in Barcelona by pulling the steering wheel a little towards him and pushing it back a little later. It influenced the position of its wheels and therefore probably also its top speed.

With the trick, Mercedes seems to have found a loophole. The top team has scheduled a press event later on Thursday, which will most likely provide more explanation about the find.

Just like on the first test day, Mercedes was very productive. Hamilton came to 106 laps in the morning session and was the only driver to break the 100-line limit.

The fastest time was clocked by Sergio Pérez of Racing Point, who went around in 1.17,347. Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo (1,117,749) also jumped under 1 minute 18. However, times still say very little at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

No Max Verstappen on Thursday

Alexander Albon appears on the track all day on behalf of Red Bull Racing. It was Max Verstappen’s turn on Wednesday. On Friday the drivers alternate in the RB16.

Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault are the teams that will appear on the circuit in Spain with another driver on Thursday afternoon. Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Ricciardo are relieved by Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel and Esteban Ocon.

Next week, from Wednesday to Friday, the second and final series of test days is on the program. The first Grand Prix of the Formula 1 season is on March 15 at the Albert Park Street Circuit in Australia.
