Greg Van Avermaet starts in Ron just like the last three years …

CCC spearheads Greg Van Avermaet and Matteo Trentin start their season Thursday in the Tour of Valencia (2.Pro). For the now 34-year-old Van Avermaet it is already the fourth year in a row that he opens in Valencia. The thirty-year-old Trentin, who is new to CCC, was also present during the past two years. In addition to Van Avermaet, two fellow countrymen are at the start with Nathan Van Hooydonck and Serge Pauwels.

“The Tour of Valencia is always a good course to open the season,” Van Avermaet explained in a press release from his team. “I know the region and the roads well and we were here on site with the team before for a training camp. Last year I could win a stage here and then it is always nice to return. The entire team is again motivated to go for the win. The main goal remains to test the shape after a long winter. ”

“The stages are not really in my favor this year,” the Olympic champion continued. “There are a few sprint rides and one very difficult stage. But we still go for it. The classics group now knows each other very well. Only Matteo Trentin joined, an excellent rider who can teach our team a lot. In Valencia we can get to know each other better and see how we will tackle the season together. ”

CCC selection:

Víctor de la Parte (Spa), Alessandro De Marchi (Ita), Serge Pauwels (Bel), Michael Schär (Zwi), Matteo Trentin (Ita), Greg Van Avermaet (Bel), Nathan Van Hooydonck (Bel)
