Google has announced that it is gradually shutting down the free Wi-Fi available at 415 railway stations in India. However, Railway has promised to continue free Wi-Fi services at these stations even if its partnership with Google ends. Google has said it will try to help Indian Railways and Railtel Corporation to continue service at its existing stations. Railway’s contract with the search engine giant expires in May 2020
Five-year deal with Google expires However, RailTel will continue to offer WiFi services at the same speed and network quality to passengers at these 415 stations. We sincerely appreciate the support we received from Google on this journey, ”said Railtel, a mining public sector company under the Ministry of Telecommunication. The company is also continuing its efforts to provide free Wi-Fi to over 5600 stations.
