A 44-year-old man died in the Philippines
The first coronavirus death outside China was registered in the Philippines. A 44-year-old man from Wuhan died there, the Philippine branch of the World Health Organization said in a statement on Twitter.
The deceased is said to be one of two patients in the Philippines who has been confirmed to be infected. His death occurred late on February 1st.
On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities briefed the World Health Organization on an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, located in the central part of the country. Experts have identified the cause of the disease – coronavirus 2019-nCoV.
WHO qualifies what is happening as a global public health threat of international importance. According to recent data, the total number of people infected in China has reached 14 370 people, 304 have died, 328 have been discharged from hospitals.
The number of people infected outside China has exceeded one hundred.
