After two games on the first day of the Fed Cup, the Netherlands and Belarus are on the same level. Kiki Bertens rewarded her return in The Hague after two years of absence from the team with a victory over Aljaksandra Sasnovich: 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1.
Bertens gave the Dutch team a 1-0 lead in the qualifying match with Belarus. Afterwards, tears shed at Bertens, who said they had surrendered the tension before the game and had a huge drive to lead the Dutch team to the Fed Cup Finals in mid-April in Budapest.
“All the tension came out, for joy that I won here,” Bertens said afterwards. “Winning for the home crowd, for the team. That’s the best thing I can do.”
