Giorgio Chiellini returned to Juventus’ group training on Tuesday, which means the return of one of Matthijs de Ligt’s competitors. The routinier dropped out during the first round of the season and now returns almost five months later, the defender shows on Twitter.
The debacle for Chiellini at the time meant a boost for the newly arrived De Ligt. The former defender of Ajax joined the base after the loss of the experienced stopper. After all, Chiellini was the heart of the defense with Leonardo Bonucci, a task that was then assigned to De Ligt.
The counter for De Ligt now stands at seventeen games in the Italian Serie A. The youngster could often count on basic places, but gradually the season also faced competition from Merih Demiral. In January, however, the Turk had to deal with a cruciate ligament injury.
