The Diamond Princess ship has been quarantining for two weeks near the Yokohama coast in Japan. The ship was intercepted by a passenger on board the ship, who was diagnosed with coronavirus in Hong Kong on February 3.

The ship has 3700 people. Of these, about 1,000 are on board the ship. The rest are travelers. About 180 Indians aboard the ship. Diamond Princess, the UK’s flagship cruise ship, is the world’s largest cruise ship Princess Cruise Lines.
All passengers aboard the ship have been tested for a virus infection. Not everyone’s test results came out. The ship’s quarantine will continue until the results are fully verified, the Japanese health ministry has said.

It is reported that the ship will have to quarantine until 19 February. But the government is considering allowing the elderly and those with severe diseases to get out before then. Eighty per cent of the ship’s passengers are over 60 years old. There are 215 persons over the age of 80 and 11 persons above 90 years. Japanese media therefore report that older people are less likely to be discharged early.

Japanese news agency Kyodo reported that 10 of the 39 newly diagnosed patients were on board the ship. Of the passengers confirmed to be infected, 10 are Japanese nationals. Kyodo reported that the students are US and Chinese nationals.
