Citizen of Canada burns dollars in order not to pay alimony.
Ottawa resident Bruce McConnell said in court that he would burn a million Canadian dollars to avoid paying alimony, according to Ottawa Citizen. The court sentenced him to 30 days in prison.
The 55-year-old businessman and former candidate for Ottawa mayor declined to disclose information about his income during the divorce filing. The court concluded that the employer had sold all of his assets without his wife’s knowledge and withdrew more than a million dollars from his account and allegedly burned them.
The court asked McCannville to prove the burning of the dollars. But he said he did so on his own without any evidence and did not have the video to burn the dollar.
