Trainer Peter Bosz can no longer have striker Kevin Volland at Bayer Leverkusen for the rest of the season. The most valuable player of the German top club has torn his ankle band.
Volland sustained its injury on Thursday in the won Europa League game with FC Porto (2-1). He had to be replaced just in time and will therefore not be in action until the summer
The 27-year-old Volland is the best player in the Bosz team in terms of figures. The ten-time international of Germany was good for eleven goals and nine assists in 31 matches.
His injury has no consequences for Volland for the European Championship, because he was not eligible for the tournament next summer. In November 2016 he last wore the shirt of Germany.
Leverkusen is in shape – eight of the last nine games were won – and is fully in the Bundesliga summit. The Bosz team is fifth after 23 rounds of play, at six points from league-leader Bayern Munich. The top four take a Champions League ticket in Germany.
