Israel has again expanded the fishing zone off the Gaza coast. A spokesman for the Fisheries Commission in Gaza said on Friday that fishermen are now allowed to go almost 28 kilometers to the sea.
The responsible Israeli authority has not yet commented on this.
Israel had limited fishing on the Gaza Strip to ten nautical miles (18 kilometers) last week due to multi-day rocket attacks by Palestinian militants. However, the situation has eased somewhat recently.
Rocket from Gaza
There are repeated confrontations between Israel and militant Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. A rocket had been launched from the Gaza Strip towards Israel on Tuesday evening. In response, the Israeli army attacked several objects belonging to the radical Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip.
For security reasons, Israel tightened the blockade of the coastal strip in 2007, which Egypt now supports. Palestinians regularly protest the blockade because it worsens the humanitarian situation of two million people.
