Because of corona virus: richest people in the world lose $ 139 billion in one day

The fund markets reacted to the corona virus reports on Monday and fell sharply. Because of the declining indices, the world’s 500 richest people lost a total of $ 139 billion in one day. The agency Bloomberg wrote on Tuesday.

The fund markets are said to fear that the novel corona virus could paralyze the global economy.

The biggest losses

This is the biggest loss of the richest people from the Bloomberg ranking since October 2016, as the Agency published such lists for the first time.

According to the agency, the founder of the Internet company Amazon, Jeff Bezos, and the boss of the French company Moet Hennessy – Louis Vuitton, Bernard Arnault, had the biggest losses – each more than 4.8 billion US dollars (4.4 billion euros) – suffered.

The owner of the Zara chain, Amancio Ortega, has lost $ 4 billion and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has lost $ 3.48 billion. The remaining six of the ten richest people in the world were poorer by $ 2.3 billion each.

The U.S. stock indices fell more than three percent on Monday at the end of the trading day.

Investors are concerned about the extent of the corona virus because the disease outbreak and quarantine measures pose a risk to the economy of China and the world.

Current number of sufferers

The Chinese Health Commission reported another 150 Covid 19 deaths in Beijing. More than 77,000 infections and over 2,600 deaths have now been recorded.

More than 2,200 infections and more than 25 deaths have been reported from around 30 countries and regions outside mainland China.

Outbreak of novel corona virus

At the end of December, Beijing informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of the outbreak of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. A little later the coronavirus 2019-nCoV was identified as a pathogen.
