AZ ‘keeps striker (16) out of Ajax’ hands and presents professional contract

Ernest Poku will continue to play football at AZ in the coming years. The striker celebrated his sixteenth birthday on January 28 and has now signed his first professional contract with the Alkmaarders, AZ says through the official channels.

The born Amsterdammer with Ghanaian roots is only working on his first season in the service of a professional club, after he came over from amateur club FC Amsterdam last summer. According to rumors in North Holland, Ajax is said to have the brand new youth international of Orange, but Poku has now committed itself to AZ until mid-2023.
The striker continues to surprise himself, he says at the AZ site. “When I joined AZ last year, I dreamed of a contract and a debut as a youth international. I did not expect this to happen in my first season. It went really fast.” Now he hopes to be able to follow his example Myron Boadu. “Hopefully I can finally follow in the footsteps of Myron Boadu here in the stadium, against whom I look up.”
