Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met, today, Wednesday, a number of leaders of the Fatah movement in the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, to discuss the implications of the peace plan in the Middle East proposed by Washington.
According to the Palestinian News and Information Agency, “Wafa”, Abbas met with the secretaries of the Fatah movement’s territories in the West Bank, the Secretary General of the Fatah Youth, and the Youth Secondary Coordinator, in the presence of the two members of the Central Committee of the Fatah movement, Hussein al-Sheikh and Jamal Muhaisin.
Abbas said during the meeting, that the Palestinian leadership is leading a political movement to counter the deal, and mobilize Arab, Islamic and international support, to adhere to the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative, and the establishment of an independent state for the Palestinians with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.
Abbas stressed that the deal is intended to liquidate the Palestinian issue, stressing that the leadership and people of Palestine will not allow the passage of this “conspiracy” plan, adding: “It will end as all the conspiracies that have been woven against our national cause have ended.”
Last week, US President Donald Trump announced the proposed peace plan between the Palestinians and Israelis, known as the “Deal of the Century”, in the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump said: “Today, Israel is taking a big step toward peace. The proposed peace plan between Israelis and Palestinians is a strong path forward.”
He added: “The Palestinian people deserve a better life instead of those who take advantage of their situation to spread violence and terrorism,” noting that Netanyahu told him that his proposed plan is the basis for direct negotiation.
He added that he said to the Palestinian president: “If you choose peace, America and other countries will be ready to help,” adding: “I told Abbas that the lands designated for his new state will remain open and no settlements will take place for 4 years.”
