Add a network access fee
Water bills will be paid even if no one lives in a home. This provides for a water law, which is being prepared by the Ministry of Regional Development and is expected to be released for public consultation in April. The idea is to include the component for access to the water supply network in the price of water, the ministry has officially explained. This really is a “water meter” fee – you pay if you have a water meter, no matter how much water you consume.
The change will really affect all people who own villas, holiday properties or own an old house in a Bulgarian village. In these properties, people only go a few times a year, mainly in the summer. There are also thousands of uninhabited old houses in the country. If the change is accepted, the owners will have to pay water bills for all these properties, even if no one lives in them. Many people have such problems with the heating system, and even if they have emigrated abroad and do not want to heat their homes, they are billed.
