Garbine Muguruza (WTA 32) is in the final of the Australian Open. The Spanish defeated Simona Halep (WTA 3) in the semi-finals 7-6 and 7-5 and can prepare for an unpublished final against Sofia Kenin who eliminated Ashleigh Barty earlier today.

Muguruza is a double grand-lamb winner. In 2016 she won Roland Garros, a year later a victory followed at Wimbledon. The Spanish even became the number one in the world for a while, but varying results in 2018 and 2019 put her down on the WTA ranking. Now, in 2020, Muguruza seems to have regained its top form. It is the first time since her victory at Wimbledon that she has managed to reach the final of a grand slam.

In the final, the Spanish will face Sofia Kenin (WTA 15). The American needed two sets to keep home player Ashleigh Barty from a final place: 7-6 and 7-5.
