Seville has thrown itself into the Copa del Rey on Thursday evening. In the eighth final, LaLiga’s number three lost relatively no chance with second divisionist CD Mirandés: 3-1. Last week Mirandés also had eliminated Celta de Vigo in the cup tournament. The stunt team knows on Friday who will be the opponent in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey. Luuk de Jong participated ninety minutes in Seville, but he was rarely in the game.
Six players from Seville retained their base position against the league match against Granada (2-0 win), but the current number three of LaLiga was anything but easy with the LaLiga2 mid-engine. The best chances were in the first half for Mirandés and so the 2-0 score was logical. Both goals came from the foot of Matheus Aias. In the seventh minute, Sevilla defended weakly after an imminent situation, allowing Álvaro Peña to get the ball to Aias. In the penalty area, the Brazilian turned past his opponent and fired.
After half an hour, Aias cut out Ever Banega in midfield after he got the ball in the foot of the opponent. Aias tried it from about 25 meters. Just outside the penalty area was Gudelj, who held the arms alongside the body, but nevertheless changed the ball with the upper body. That meant keeper Tomás Vaclik had no chance: 2-0. In the injury time of the first half, however, Vaclik prevented Aias from completing his hat trick. After a cross from the left flank, the Brazilian tried with a heel ball behind the standing leg and Vaclik needed his fingertips to avert the 3-0.
In the second half, Sevilla was unable to repair the damage. Mirandés threatened to increase the score even further when Peña was allowed to score for a foul after a foul on himself by defender Diego Carlos. However, Peña failed from eleven meters: he opted for the left corner and Vaclik parried his bet. Five minutes before time, a counter by the home team led to the final blow. Álvaro Rey sprinted over half of Sevilla and struck the keeper in the penalty area to strike in the rebound: 3-0. De Jong got another chance on the 3-1 from a header; Nolito did something back in the final minute.
