France announced today, Thursday, the start of a European naval mission in the Strait of Hormuz, with the aim of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Gulf as well as to promote an approach to reduce escalation with Iran.
France has made efforts for a European security alternative in the Strait of Hormuz, after ruling out joining a US-led coalition to protect oil tankers and cargo ships, from what Washington has described as threats from Iran, according to Reuters.
The French Armed Forces Ministry said today, Thursday, that the frigate “Courbet” has started patrolling the Strait of Hormuz.
And she added that a Dutch frigate will join the French in about two weeks.
