VIENNA (Sputnik) – Europe does not react properly to the sanctions that the US imposes against Nord Stream 2, said the head of the Austrian OMV consortium, Rainer Seele, when speaking at the European Gas Conference.

“A correct reaction from Europe is missing. We are talking a lot, but we do little, as I see it,” he said.

He also pointed out that it is impossible for a bill of billions of dollars, legally approved by the respective entities, to be stopped by unilateral and extraterritorial sanctions, without taking into account the opinion of Europe.
The Nord Stream 2 provides for the laying of two wires along the bottom of the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany to transport a total of 55,000 million cubic meters of fuel. It is implemented by the operating company Nord Stream 2 AG together with the sole shareholder, Gazprom.
European partners – British-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell, Austrian OMV, French Engie and German Uniper and Wintershall – fund the project at 50%, or $ 1,058 million each. Gazprom invests the other half, 5.240 million dollars.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, signed on December 20 the military budget for 2020, which stipulates to impose sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 and Turk Stream pipelines.

Washington demanded that construction companies immediately cease construction, Swiss Allseas in fact quickly suspended its participation in the Nord Stream 2 project.
