Climate activist Greta Thunberg nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

The two Swedish politicians Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling have nominated the climate activist.

According to them, the climate crisis leads to new conflicts and wars. The fight against global warming is therefore an act of peace for which Thunberg deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

Earlier contender

Nominations for the Nobel Prize must be submitted to the Nobel Committee before 1 February. Thunberg was also seen as a contender last year, but then grabbed next to the prize.

Ultimately, the Nobel Peace Prize went to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia. He received the prize because he resolutely put an end to the bitter and long disputes between his country and neighboring country Eritrea.

Global protest movement

Thunberg started in 2018 with a ‘school strike for the climate’ outside parliament in Sweden. It grew into one of the faces of the global protest movement that demands measures against climate change.
