The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into the Greek deputy Ioannis Lagos, a member of the European Parliament (EP), who ripped the Turkish flag.

In the statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was reported that an investigation was launched against Lagos who broke the Turkish flag during his speech at the “Humanitarian Situation on Greek Islands” meeting held in Brussels by the EP General Assembly.

In the statement, it was noted that an investigation against Lagos will be carried out ex officio for the crime of “insulting the sovereignty of the state” stated in Article 300 of the Turkish Penal Code.
