Airlines cease flights due to Chinese virus

British Airways ceases flights to China because of the coronavirus epidemic.

The British government is organizing the evacuation of some 300 Britons believed to be in Wuhan or Hubei, the city’s administrative center.

British Airways generally operates daily scheduled flights from Heathrow Airport to Shanghai and Beijing.

“We apologize to the people for the inconvenience, but the safety of our customers has always been a priority for us,” the airline said in a brief statement.

Russian Ural Airlines also announced today that they are suspending some of their services to Europe because of the deadly Chinese coronavirus, BNR reported.

The Ekaterinburg-based airline stops flights to Munich, Paris and Rome, as well as to the Japanese city of Sapporo by the end of winter.

It is these flights that are popular with Chinese tourist groups.

According to the latest Chinese authorities, 132 people have died from the new virus, nearly 6,000 have become infected.

A number of countries have already evacuated their nationals located in the quarantined city of Wuhan.
