Pune:Covishield vaccine for serum was first approved in the country. Serum has developed the Covishield vaccine with the help of Oxford University and AstraZeneca. The vaccine is currently being used in the country and the Serum Institute of India is expected to launch a new vaccine on corona soon. Adar Punawala, the head of Serum, has hinted about this on Twitter.
Poonawala tweeted that he would launch another vaccine on serum corona in June this year. If approved, it would be the third corona vaccine in the country. ‘Vaccine tests developed by Serum in partnership with Novavax are underway. His findings are excellent. We have sought permission to start trials in India. We hope to launch Kovovax in June 2021, ‘Punawala said in a tweet.
Currently, Pune-based Serum’s Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covacin vaccines are being used in the country. The covacin has been developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Medical Research Council of India (ICMR) and the Indian Institute of Virology. The covacin vaccine is completely Indian. Research for the Covishield vaccine has been carried out by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. The vaccine is being produced by the Serum Institute of India.
