Navi Delhi: Former Indian cricketer and current East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir and India’s leading archer have been at loggerheads. The reason for the controversy is the archery pavilion center and training center built for the 2020 Commonwealth Games.
According to Gambhir, the training center should be named after former India cricket legend Anil Kumble. Gambhir has also written a letter asking for permission. However, Gambhir’s proposal has been strongly opposed by archery teams and players. Union Minister Arjun Munda, who heads the archery team, has also made it clear that he is in favor of the players.
According to archers, the training center should be named after the famous archer Limba Ram. For this, Deepika Kumari, Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai, Jayant Talukdar and Bombayla Devi have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Limba Ram is a former veteran archer of India. Limba Ram is originally from Rajasthan. He has represented India in the Olympics three times. In 2012, he was also awarded the Padma Sanman. It will be interesting to see what decision is taken in this regard in the near future.
