New Delhi Andre Russell is considered the best player of T20 cricket, but for the Kolkata Knight Riders, he had a very disappointing performance at the IPEL 2020. Despite Russell’s poor performance last season, KKR retained him in their squad for IPL season 2021. The IPL is scheduled to be auctioned on February 18 for the 14th season and before that all the franchises have submitted the list of retained and released players to the board. This time KKR released six players from its team which includes players like Chris Green and Tom Banton.
Now just before the IPL 2021 auction, former India team cricketer and commentator Akash Chopra has suggested to KKR the names of two players who could be Andre Russell’s backup. Russell was also injured during the IPL 2020 which had an impact on the team’s performance. Akash has suggested to KKR that they could include Australian players Henriques and Chris Green in the auction as Andre Russell’s backup.
Talking on his YouTube channel, Akash Chopra said that for KKR, Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik to be in good form is very important. Both these batsmen come to bat at number 5 and 6 and if the team has to perform well then both of them become very important. He said that, if Andre Russell of the KKR team gets injured, then its effect is clearly seen on the team. His being changed changes the entire picture and direction of the match.
He said that if Andre Russell gets injured, in such a situation the team needs a player of his level as a backup who can perform like him. If KKR is considering bringing the fast bowler all-rounder into the team, then they should turn to Chris Green or Henriques.
