Nagpur: Hemant Nagarale, who has been given additional charge of the post of Director General and Inspector General of Police, is the son of Vidarbha. Until now, he was the Director General (Judicial and Technical). He will also hold the posts of Director General and Inspector General of Police.
Nagarale’s education up to class VI was at Bhadravati in Chandrapur district, while his further education was at Patwardhan School in Nagpur. He received his B.A. from the then VRCE. E. (Mechanical) degree. He holds a Master’s degree in Finance Management from JBIMS, Mumbai. After getting appointment in the police department, he was initially sent as an ASP to the Naxal-affected Rajura (Dist. Chandrapur). In 1992, he became the DCP of Solapur. Meanwhile, due to his efforts, a commissionerate was set up in Solapur. He also brought the religious riots sparked by the Babri Masjid case under control. While he was the Superintendent of Police at Ratnagiri, he effectively handled land acquisition cases related to the Enron project. During his tenure as CID Superintendent of Police from 1996 to 1998, he investigated the statewide MPSC Paper Foot case. Also, Anjanabai Gavit, who kidnapped and murdered children, was sentenced to death. He also worked successfully for the CBI. He was instrumental in the investigation into the Telgi stamp paper scam. In October 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Director General. So far, he has been awarded the President’s Police Medal, Special Service Medal and Internal Security Medal. Vidarbha is happy that he has been given the additional charge of Director General and Inspector General of Police.
