Mumbai: – The Konkan is rich in intelligence and creativity and many of the Indians doing research on the backs of the world are from the Konkan. Konkan has a conducive environment and potential for ‘innovative’ research along with natural resources. Therefore, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Konkan should be developed as ‘International Greenfield Innovative Region’, said senior leader MP Sharad Pawar today. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar assured that the state government is committed to the sustainable development of Konkan and Sharad Pawar’s suggestion will be implemented.
A special meeting was organized today at the State Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai to develop the Konkan region (Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg districts) as an international innovation department. In the meeting, the head of the Science and Technology Center of Pune, Dr. Rajendra Jagdale gave a presentation on ‘International Greenfield Innovative Region’. Senior Scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar also supported the concept of Innovative Region and said that implementation of the concept is necessary for the development of Konkan and the state.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Speaker of the Legislative Council Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar, Industry Minister Subhash Desai, Skills Development Minister Nawab Malik, Social Justice Minister Dhananjay Munde, Transport Minister Anil Parab, Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant, Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray, Minister of State for Environment Aditi Tatkare and senior scientists. Dr. Dr. Anik Kakodkar, Head of Science and Technology Center, Pune Rajendra Jagdale and other senior officers of various departments were present.
Senior leader Sharad Pawar said that while efforts are being made to take Maharashtra forward in many areas, there is a huge opportunity to develop Konkan as an ‘International Greenfield Innovative Region’. The Konkan has a conducive environment for this. Intelligence and creativity is huge in Konkan. Mumbai University, University of Agriculture, Fisheries Institute are here. It is possible to develop this region without harming the natural resources of the Konkan by using its natural resources. Sharad Pawar also said that a positive decision should be taken in this regard considering the next fifty-one hundred years. Sharad Pawar also suggested that the concept should be presented to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and after his approval.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that today’s meeting is being held in the presence of the Guardian Ministers of the three districts of Konkan. All three ministers and the state government are positive about the development of the Konkan’s ‘International Greenfield Innovative Region’. After the presentation before Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, a positive decision will be taken in this regard. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also expressed confidence that the development of Konkan would be achieved through this without compromising the environment and that this project would be a major investment for the state in the future.

Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray said that for the development of the ‘innovation’ sector, it should be free from political constraints and pressures. Aditya Thackeray also said that the policy of the state is necessary for this.
