The tournament, which first started in 1934, is named after the Indian prince and cricketer KS Ranjit Singh, who played 15 Test matches for England between 1896 and 1902. In cricket, the invention of shots like late cut and leg glasses are known to Ranjit Singh. The most successful team in the Ranji Trophy is Mumbai, which won the record 41 times. Wasim Japar is the most successful batsman of the tournament with 10 thousand 738 runs to his name.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI has decided. The Ranji Trophy will be replaced by the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season. Actually, Corona changed both the state and direction of the game in the country. With the 14th season of the IPL scheduled to be held in April, the BCCI has only two months left to host any domestic tournament. Keeping all this in mind, the BCCI had sought opinion from all the associations on the holding of either the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy.
Various state cricket associations have given their opinion on the suggested suggestion of board secretary Jai Shah, on the basis of which this season, besides Vijay Hazare, the senior women’s ODI and under-19 will host Vinoo Mankad Trophy. No tournament dates have been announced yet, but the Hazare Trophy is expected to begin in the second and third week of February. According to media reports, most of the state associations except Andhra Pradesh are in favor of Vijay Hazare Trophy. Most unions have agreed on shorter format tournaments.
Board Secretary Jai Shah informed the decision by writing a letter to the state associations. It is very important for us to have a women’s competition. It is a pleasure to tell all of you that we are organizing the Veenu Mankad Under-19 T20 Trophy along with the Senior Women’s ODI tournament. The decision has been taken based on your responses received for the domestic season 2020-21. I thank all for the successful conduct of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after IPL last year.
