Mulayam Singh Yadav was born in Saifai village in Etawah district. Born into a farmer family, Mulayam has five siblings. Father Sudhar Singh Yadav wanted to make him a wrestler but after impressing his political mentor Nathu Singh in Pahalwani in a wrestling competition in Mainpuri, he started his political journey from Jaswant Nagar, the constituency of Nathu Singh. Before joining politics, Mulayam has also been teaching in Inter College for a few days.
