Encouraged by the positive response to the Bengali versus outsider campaign, the Trinamool Congress leadership has decided to make Bengali Asmita its main electoral issue in the 2021 assembly election as a cut of the BJP’s aggressive Hindutva campaign in West Bengal. The party led by Mamta Banerjee has decided to resort to the spirit of Bengali sub-nationalism. A section of the party’s top leaders believe that regional sentiment can be resorted to in response to the aggressive nationalism of the saffron camp and the rise of Hindutva.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and MP Saugat Rai told PTI-Bhasha, “Bengali Asmita will be our main electoral issue apart from development during the next assembly elections. Bengali asmita is not only about Bengalis but it has appeal to all land sons. Through this ideology, it will help to counter the BJP’s campaign to impose leaders brought from outside to control the people of the state.

According to Trinamool Congress sources, like the regional party in Tamil Nadu, Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, the Trinamool Congress also wants to emerge as a defender of Bangla culture and identity. The leader of the Trinamool Congress said, “In Bihar, JD (U) spoke of Bihari vs Bahri. The BJP, which resorted to nationalism, also spoke of ‘Gujarati identity’ in the Gujarat elections in 2007. So if we do this then we feel that nobody should have any problem with this. ”

A senior leader of the party led by Mamta Banerjee said that “divisive politics and religious polarization can never be confronted with the politics of development”. Only Vice-Nationalism and regional sentiment can counter it.

For the last two weeks, the Trinamool Congress has raised the issue of Bengali versus outsider loudly and has given statements like ‘Bengal will become Gujarat’. The Trinamool Congress is benefiting from Banerjee’s lack of face and BJP’s “over-reliance on central leadership”. Bratya Basu, a minister in the Trinamool Congress government, said, “People have to decide whether they are externally Want to put the rule in the hands of or give the reins in the hands of the Bhumiputras here. This is a decision that will affect the next generation.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said, “Our party’s founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was from Bengal. How we became an outsider party. Is Bengal out of India? Trinamool is raising these issues in frustration in view of its imminent defeat. “BJP national general secretary and in-charge of West Bengal Kailash Vijayvargiya said,” We have not faced a situation anywhere in the country where the people of the country Externally stated. The intruder is being welcomed here and the people of this country are being called outsiders. “Elections for the 294-member assembly of West Bengal are to be held in April-May next year.
