Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered a major setback in Jammu and Kashmir. The party’s founding member Muzaffar Hussain Baig has resigned from the PDP. The reason behind Baig’s resignation is unhappiness over the ‘People’s Alliance for Group Declaration’ (PAGD) agreement to share seats with other parties. The District Development Council (DDC) elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir.

Baig said, ‘The National Conference is contesting more seats. Thus, it is not in the interests of PDP. I respect Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and wish him all the best. I am leaving the PDP on principles. ‘ He also said that he was not consulted about the agreement to share seats with parties related to PAGD.

Baig said, “I called him (Mehbooba) and told him about my resignation as a patron and member from PDP.” Regarding his future, the senior leader said, “I will consult my friends and well-wishers about my future strategy.”

Let me tell you, Muzaffar Baig has been associated with the PDP since the inception of the year 1998. PAGD consists of National Conference, PDP, People’s Conference and CPM. There is a discussion that if the motive behind its formation is to gain an edge in the election or to increase the interests of the party, then it is completely wrong. The Congress has already extended its support to the PAGD.
Elections from 28 November; DDC elections are to be held in Jammu and Kashmir from November 28 to December 24 in eight phases.
