Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has once again questioned the way the party functions. Emphasizing the election of office bearers in the party on Sunday, he also made sharp comments on the 5 star culture that was growing in the leaders and the defeat in the election.
Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Azad said on the defeat in the elections that we are all concerned about the loss to the party. Especially from the results of the by-elections in Bihar and several states of the country. I do not blame the leadership of the party for this loss. Our people have ended their engagement with the land. Anyone should love their party.
‘Congress at the lowest rung in 72 years’
He said that elections cannot be won with 5 star culture. Today, there is a problem with politicians that if they get a ticket, they first book a 5 star hotel. If the road is bad then they will not go on it. No election can be won until this 5 star culture is abandoned.
In the last 72 years, the Congress is at the bottom. The Congress has also not held the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha during the last two terms. However, the Congress won 9 seats in the Ladakh Hill Council elections. We were not expecting such positive results there.
‘Appointed Officers Don’t Go to Ground’
Ghulam Nabi Azad said, ‘Officials should understand their responsibilities. As long as officials are appointed, they will not go to the ground. If all the officials are elected under a process, they will assume their responsibility. Right now, anyone gets any position in the party. ‘
‘Unless we change our way of functioning at every level, things will not change. Leadership needs to give a program to party workers and hold elections for positions. No one should be able to ask for leadership if he is not there.
‘The party structure has collapsed’
Azad said that the structure of our party has collapsed. We need to remodel it. Then if a leader is chosen according to that structure, then this method will work, but to say that only if we win Bihar or UP, MP by changing the leader, it is wrong. Once we change the system it will start happening.
‘Clean chit to Gandhi family’
He said that I am giving a clean chit to the Gandhi family because of Corona. There is not much they can do right now. There has been no change in our demands. They have agreed to most of our demands. If we want to be an alternative in the country and want to revive the party, then our leadership should elect for positions in the party.
Kapil Sibal is also demanding change
Ever since the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held a few months ago, Congress leader Kapil Sibal has also consistently criticized the party’s functioning. Earlier 23 party leaders had also written a letter to the interim president Sonia Gandhi on this issue. These included Ghulam Nabi Azad along with Kapil Sibal. The letter demanded a change in the party from top to bottom.
The two were angered by the leaders writing letters at the CWC meeting alleging complicity with the BJP. After the defeat in Bihar elections, Kapil Sibal even went so far as to say that the party may have accepted defeat in every election as the destiny. This was considered as the target of the party’s top leadership ie Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
Salman Khurshid said, there is no crisis of leadership in the party
After the statement of Ghulam Nabi Azad, another senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s statement came out. He said that there is no Crisis of Leadership inside the party. All are in support of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul. One who is not blind will see this.
In an interview, Khurshid said that the leadership of the party listens to me. I am given a chance. They are also given a chance, who say that the party leadership is not listening to anyone.
On the comments of the party’s senior leaders Kapil Sibal and P Chidambaram on the defeat in elections, Khurshid said that he cannot disagree with what he said, but why does anyone go out and tell the media and the world that we need to do this .
