MUMBAI: It is understood that the salaries of Mumbai Police and ministry staff will now be paid at HDFC Bank. Earlier, Mumbai Police was getting salary from Axis Bank. However, when Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Minister, an agreement was reached in 2017 with Axis Bank to pay the salaries of Mumbai Police. The agreement expires on July 31, 2020. The state government then decided to pay the salary to HDFC Bank. HDFC Bank has offered some special concessions to the police. Therefore, it is being said that this salary has been shifted there.
The new bank was proposed after the MoU with Axis Bank on police salaries expired on July 31. The bank has been selected as it offers more facilities in the proposal given by HDFC. HDFC Bank has provided excellent facilities to Mumbai Police. Therefore, the Home Department has taken this decision and the salary classes from Axis Bank have been classified. The wife of the then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is working as a manager in Axis Bank. Opposition groups called for Fadnavis to divert police salaries to Axis Bank. A petition was also filed in the court in this regard.
The police will get these facilities
Insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh in case of death due to natural or cowardly, insurance cover up to Rs 1 crore in case of accidental death, Rs 50 lakh in case of accidental disability, Rs 10 lakh for two children after accidental death HDFC Bank will provide staff and officers.
Fadnavis had classed the salary in Axis Bank
Nana Patole, chairman of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee’s campaign committee, had alleged that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had transferred police salary accounts to Axis Bank. Replying to this, the Chief Minister claimed that when Vilasrao Deshmukh was the Chief Minister, he had decided to classify the salary accounts of the police in 2005. However, claiming that this claim was false, the ruling on classification of police salary accounts during Deshmukh’s tenure included the names of 15 different banks. However, in 2017, by the order of Chief Minister Fadnavis, a circular was issued from the police headquarters and it was decided to pay the salaries of the police from Axis Bank. A petition was filed in the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court against this.
