Gurunath Narvekar, who is working as a ‘Pranipal’ at ‘Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Zoo’ of Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation, has been honored with ‘Pranimitra Award 2020’. The award was presented by Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar. Gurunath Narvekar has been honored with a certificate, a badge of honor and a cash prize at the ceremony, which was organized online by the Central Zoological Authority in New Delhi. Out of the staff working in 151 zoos across the country, 4 staff members have been selected for this year’s award, including Narvekar.
Wildlife Week Award ‘Pranmitra Award’
In the first week of October, ‘Wildlife Week’ is celebrated in all the zoos across the country. On the occasion of this year’s Wildlife Week, the Central Zoological Authority, New Delhi, should pay due respect to the outstanding performance of the staff in the zoos. Under this, ‘Pranimitra Puraskar’ has been given to 4 employees working in various positions in the zoo, including Gurunath Narvekar, who has been working as ‘Pranipal’ for the last 30 years.
Honor at the hands of Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar
While working as an animal keeper, Narvekar has served various animals and birds for the last 30 years. After being promoted to the post of ‘Veterinary Urologist’, Narvekar has been working on the health care and medicine of the animals in the zoo. Gurunath Narvekar, who is retiring from NMC in December 2020, has been honored with this award for his uninterrupted service.
