Pompeo Esper to arrive in India today for 2 plus 2 Ministerial dialogue


New Delhi, ANI. Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo and Defense Minister Mark Esper are visiting India today for two-plus-two talks (India-US 2 + 2 Dialogue) ahead of the presidential election in the US. During this time, the two countries will discuss many important issues, including from China to the Corona vaccine. The Indian side will be represented by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

Michael Ponpio and Mark Espar will participate in the third edition of the two-plus-two talks between India and America on Tuesday. This talks of two top Trump ministers are considered very important just a week before the elections in the US. The talks will discuss a number of important bilateral, regional and global issues, including China’s attempt to increase influence in the Indo-Pacific region and its aggressive behavior in the eastern Ladakh region.

Will also meet PM Modi

Along with the talks, Ponpio and Espar will also hold bilateral talks with their Indian counterparts. He will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Officials said US defense minister Esper will be presented with a salute guard on the lawn of South Block in Raisina Hills on Monday afternoon.

Beca finalized

Both sides will also finalize the long-pending BECA (Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement). Beca includes exchange of state-of-the-art military technology, equipment and geospatial maps between the two countries. With this agreement, India will get accurate geospatial data from the US, which will prove to be very effective in military operations.

What is two plus two talks

This is the third phase of talks between India and the United States. Under Two Plus Two, the Foreign Ministers and Defense Ministers of the two countries hold talks on important issues. On behalf of the US, Foreign Minister Mike Ponpio and Defense Minister Marktie Espar will be involved in this dialogue. At the same time, on behalf of India, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will represent the country in the talks.
