Lasalgaon (Nashik): After four days, the onion auction at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee here resumed on Friday morning. In the morning, only 600 quintals of summer onion from 50 vehicles were sold and the highest price of onion was announced at Rs 5,900 five days ago. So the red onion has not arrived at all. The average price was announced at Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,900 in the morning.
Lasalgaon Agricultural Produce Market Committee Chairperson Suvarna Jagtap, Deputy Chairperson Preeti Borgude and Secretary Narendra Wadhwane informed that the auction has resumed from 30th October. Also onion buying auctions will start at 08.00 am. This has been informed by the market committee. Vinchur has got an average price of Rs. 1500 to 6351 and Rs. 5300.
Onion auctions were closed for four consecutive days in 15 major onion market committees, including Lasalgaon in the district. With the onion auction closed, the turnover of Rs 100 to 120 crore was halted in four days. This period is important for Diwali shopping and selling onions or agricultural products. Traders had expressed inability to participate in the onion auction due to restrictions on storage of onions purchased by traders to control the market price of onions. Yesterday, a meeting was held between traders and farmers along with NCP President Sharad Pawar. After that Agriculture Minister Dada Bhuse took the initiative and held a meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at the Ministry in Mumbai. The day-long onion auction has come to an end.
