After the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla chaired a review meeting, sources said that the new parliament house will have a seating arrangement of 888 members while the Rajya Sabha will have 384 members. This is being done keeping in mind the increasing number of members in both the houses in future. At present 543 in the lower house of parliament (Lok Sabha), while the total number of members in the upper house (Rajya Sabha) is 245. Officials informed that adequate steps are being taken to control air and noise pollution during the construction work of the new Parliament House. The new Parliament House will have separate offices for all MPs and will be equipped with the latest digital equipment. This step is a step towards ensuring a paperless office. The new building will also have a constitution hall, which will showcase India’s democratic heritage. Apart from this, there will also be a lounge for Members of Parliament, a library, rooms for several committees, places for food and parking. The current building is the British era, designed by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. Both of them built New Delhi. The foundation stone of the existing Parliament House was laid on 12 February 1921 and it took six years to construct and cost Rs 83 lakh at that time. The inauguration ceremony took place on 18 January 1927 at the hands of Lord Irwin, the then Governor General of India. In the meeting, Birla said that there should be no compromise in terms of quality and in timely completion of the work related to the construction of the new Parliament building. A monitoring committee will be set up to oversee the construction work, consisting of officials of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Central Public Works Department (CPWD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and the architect / designer of the project Will be Last month, Tata Projects Limited won a tender to construct the new Parliament House at a cost of Rs 861.90 crore. The statement said, “During the construction work, detailed information was also given about the plan to put a barrier and various measures to be taken to reduce air and noise pollution. Officials of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs also briefed Birla about the proposed scheme for movement of VIPs and other employees during this period, including during the Parliament session. “The original copy of the Constitution will also be kept in the Constitution Room.” India’s democratic heritage etc. will be shown through digital mediums. Visitors will be allowed to visit this room so that they can understand the journey of Indian parliamentary democracy. The redevelopment project of Central Vista – the nation’s corridor of power – envisages a triangular parliament building, a shared central secretariat. Also, a three km long Rajpath from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate will also be rejuvenated. The Prime Minister’s Housing and Office is also expected to come near South Block under the Central Vista project. The Vice President’s new residence will be in the vicinity of North Block. The government is likely to demolish buildings like Udyog Bhavan, Krishi Bhavan and Shastri Bhavan to form a new Central Secretariat, which will have offices of several ministries.
