Connaught Place will have ‘Smog Tower’
Addressing an online press conference, Kejriwal said that the cabinet also approved the proposal to set up a ‘smog tower’ in Delhi’s Connaught Place to deal with air pollution. The Chief Minister said that the government has sanctioned Rs 20 crore and the tower will be constructed in 10 months. He claimed that this would be the first tower of its kind in the world.
Will work with these rules
Under the policy of tree transplantation, the concerned agencies will have to plant 80 percent of the trees affected by their projects in a new location. Under the re-planting of trees, the trees are uprooted and planted and planted elsewhere. Kejriwal said that under this policy, a dedicated panel of experienced government agencies for re-planting of trees is being formed.
He said, “When a department needs to remove a tree for development work, it will seek the help of an agency in the panel for its re-planting.” Kejriwal said, ‘The agency concerned will have to ensure that 80 percent of the trees planted are alive. To ensure that the payment for planting trees will be made after one year and if less than 80 percent of the trees planted, the payment will be deducted.
Old big trees are like a blessing
The government will also set up local committees for monitoring and certification of tree planting exercise, which will also include citizens. The Chief Minister said that there are old, big shady trees in the city which are like a blessing but sometimes, due to various developmental work, trees have to be cut down. Officials said that this policy of re-planting of trees of Delhi Government is the first policy of its kind passed by any state in the country.
Delhi will become the second city in the world to install ‘Smog Tower’
Under this, in addition to the entire tree dug from the root, 10 plants will also be planted. The tree to be removed will be extracted scientifically along with its root and it will be planted at some other place. The Chief Minister said that Delhi will be the second city in the world to install ‘Smog Tower’. He said that the central government is setting up a ‘smog tower’ in Anand Vihar while the Delhi government will install it in Connaught Place.
The technology of this tower will be different from China
Kejriwal said, ‘The technology of this tower will be different from China. This will absorb polluted air from the top and release clean air from the bottom. The tower in China emits clean air from above. The Chief Minister said that the ‘Smog Tower’ will be established on the basis of the experimental project and if successful, more such towers will be installed in Delhi.
