TV station CNN released satellite images on Wednesday showing the US base Ain al-Asad in Iraq, damaged by Iranian missile attacks.

The photos are published on the transmitter’s official Twitter account.

Earlier on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump sent a de-escalating message after the Iranian retaliation attack. According to Trump, the United States has a great military that Washington does not want to use in view of the recent events in Iraq. The President also spoke out in favor of working with Iran.

Missile attack on US military base

Several rockets were fired at the Iraqi military base Ain al-Asad, where US troops are based, on Wednesday night. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to some media reports, not one, but at least two US military bases in Iraq have been attacked. The second military base, which is apparently also shot at with rockets, is located in the northern city of Erbil.

According to the Iranian television station “Press TV”, 80 people were killed in the attack on US targets in Iraq. Reuters, citing Iranian state television, has reported that helicopters and US military equipment have been badly damaged.

However, according to Trump, neither Americans nor Iraqis have been injured in the Iranian missile attack and the base has been minimally damaged.

General Soleimani assassinated

General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Al Quds Special Forces unit, was murdered in a military operation on the Pentagon last week in Baghdad International Airport. The leadership in Tehran then vowed to avenge Soleimani’s death and announced a “retaliatory operation”.
