KIEV (Sputnik) – The Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) passed on December 4 a law that prohibits importing electricity from Russia under bilateral agreements.
In favor of this legislative norm they voted 274 deputies, being the minimum necessary of 226 supports.
The document will be submitted for signature by the country's president, Volodimir Zelenski, and will enter into force the next day after its publication in the official press.
"It is forbidden to import the electric power of the Russian Federation under bilateral agreements," says its text.
At the same time it is noted that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will have the right to provisionally lift this prohibition in order to avoid emergency situations in the energy system.
