A religious neighborhood association from the Spanish community Talavera de la Reina near Toledo has offered the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg a donkey to continue from Lisbon to Madrid.
"We are aware of the importance of making the world aware of the environmental situation and join in Thunberg's fight," it said Wednesday on the Facebook page of the association "Asociacion Fray Hernando de Talavera".
"Our ancestors used this vehicle and it was the most environmentally friendly ever."
Next to it was a photo of a local raised donkey posted.
The 16-year-old Thunberg arrived in Portugal on Tuesday after a three-week sailing trip across the Atlantic. She wants to travel to Madrid by train there in the next few days to attend the two-week World Climate Conference.
The activist avoids planes to draw attention to the climate crisis.
